Kidney Cleanse Home Remedy (Step-By-Step Recipe Using Only 4 Natural Ingredients)
How often do you think about your kidneys and all they do for you?
Most of us don’t pay enough homage to these exceptional organs that are constantly working on our behalf.
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist. They are located just below your rib cage, on either side of your spine.
The Kidneys Job
The kidneys are working hard every single day to cleanse and detox your body by filtering anywhere from 180-200 quarts of blood.
They collect excess fluid and waste and excrete them out as 1-2 quarts of urine daily.
This is just one reason it’s so important to stay hydrated, so that you can help the kidneys do their job.
A healthy bladder of a hydrated person urinates between 6-9 times daily.
The kidneys are crucial organs because they have the job of keeping blood composition stable, which allows the body to function well.

When Your Kidneys Are In Good Shape, They:
- Prevent the buildup of wastes and extra fluid in the body
- Keep levels of electrolytes stable, such as sodium, potassium, and phosphate
- Produce an active form of vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy bones (if you have chronic low vitamin D and you supplement with it, look to tune up kidney health)
- Release hormones that help make red blood cells and regulate blood pressure
Most people think the entire organ does the cleansing, but that’s not actually the case. Each kidney is made up of about a million filtering units called nephrons (hence why the kidney doctor is called a nephrologist). Each of the many, many nephrons filters a small amount of blood.
How Kidney Nephrons Work Is Interesting…
The nephrons first filter fluid and waste, while preventing blood cells and large molecules like proteins from passing through. The filtered fluid then goes through a tube that adds needed minerals back into the bloodstream and removes wastes. Urine is the final product.
I tell you this not only because I find it fascinating (and hope you do too), but because I hope it gives you reverence for the involuntary near-magical process that occurs in your body multiple times daily.
It’s these kinds of realizations that help us understand how powerful our bodies are (no matter your current state of health). Hopefully then, we’ll want to give back to these organs that do so much for us.
The Whole Journey Kidney Cleanse Home Remedy Recipe
A simple, easy way to love your kidneys is by occasionally cleansing and protecting them with this “kidney love” cocktail.
The Whole Journey Kidney Cleanse Home Remedy Recipe:
- 1 cup unsweetened cranberry juice
- ¼ cup chlorophyll
- ¼ cup raw apple cider vinegar
- Juice of two freshly squeezed lemons
- Optional: 3-5 drops of dark liquid stevia
You can make this and drink it daily for 7-14 days to give your kidneys the boost they deserve. And, this is a GREAT go-to at the very first sign of a bladder or urinary tract infection to help you knock it out fast and hopefully avoid antibiotics.
Why Are These 4 Ingredients In The Kidney Cleanse Home Remedy?
1: Cranberry Juice
Medical research backs up the link between cranberries and kidney health. Cranberries prevent bacteria (mostly E. coli) from attaching to the wall of the bladder. This means that infections cannot stick around inside your body.
Most people know this, but what they don’t know is that a lot like a full-bodied red wine, cranberries are high in tannins. Tannins are an active ingredient in cranberries that work by helping your liver remove excess cholesterol out of your blood while flushing out bacteria and toxins from your kidneys. So, cranberries are a two-for-one and help your other major detoxification system, the liver, to do its job better as well.
And beyond that, research points out that cranberry juice has properties that can help you fight other ailments like the flu, ulcers, and even oral cavities.
2: Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll is just a general rock star for health and a health food that often gets overlooked. It has many benefits for the human body well beyond the kidneys: it’s essential to the process of photosynthesis known as “the building block for life.” Chlorophyll contains the trace element of iron (not actually iron, see below), which is helpful for anemia, low energy, and headaches.
“In 1913, Dr. Richard Willstatter, a German chemist found that the chlorophyll molecule is chemically similar to human hemoglobin – the red pigment found in our blood cells, except that its central atom is magnesium, whereas that of human blood is iron. Chlorophyll has an affinity for blood; indeed chlorophyll has been shown to increase oxygen uptake in the blood, which can increase energy, relieve fatigue and improve many blood disorders.”
It also contains vitamin C, inorganic salt, and is alkalizing. The combination of these things allows chlorophyll to assist in toxin removal, especially from the kidneys. Studies show it has kidney-protective properties and may also reduce the risk of developing kidney stones.
3: Raw Apple Cider Vinegar
One of the staples in my diet, apple cider vinegar helps detoxify the liver because it helps break down fats. Apple cider vinegar also helps prevent kidney stones from forming and helps remove bad bacteria (E. coli is usually at the root of a urinary tract or bladder infection). So you can see, when you add apple cider vinegar and cranberry juice together, bad bacteria are up against quite a match because they work synergistically together.
4: Lemon Juice
Good old-fashioned lemon juice has been shown to increase citrate levels in the urine. Citrate is a known inhibitor of calcium stone disease. This means plain lemon juice is a powerful tool to discourage kidney stones from forming.
As you can see, combining these 4 ingredients together makes for a truly powerful kidney cleanse home remedy.

HI! I purchased Cholofresh by Natures Way. It says do not exceed the recommended daily dose of 2 Tablespoons. Serving size is 2 T.
Copper (from cholorphyllin copper complex) is 5.6 mg
Sodium 10mg
Cholorphyll (chlorophyllin copper complex) 132 mg
Should I use more than 2 T of this one I purchased and if so how much?
Thanks for your time!
Hi Heather – please write into the team at [email protected]
Where do you get chlorophyll?
Hi William,
Thank you for reaching out! Christa’s favorite is World Chlorophyll and Nature’s Way. You can find both at health food stores & on Amazon. 🙂

Hi Graham,
Thank you for your comment. We wish you a speedy recovery!!
Thank you for this mind blowing info. I’m excited to try this immediately. My brother died from kidney failure and my father died from liver failure. I’m the caregiver to my mother and she has stage 3 kidney failure. I’m in good health but I did recently have a UTI. Im looking forward to seeing the results of this drink and continuing my journey of good health. Thank you sooo much !
You are most welcome, Dawn! I’m so sorry about your brother and father and so glad you found us. Sending love for the heavy weight you’re carrying now with your mom too.
So you mix all ingredients listed above and drink it? How many times a day?
Hi Gretchen! Yes, mix them together and drink it once daily for 7-14 days 🙂

Will this help to reduce serum urea? Or can you suggest other food as medicine that will help to reduce the levels please.
I just started a cleanse but after watching the video noticed your chlorophyll is 50mg whereas mine is 100mg. Should I adjust the recipe to 1/8 cup chlorophyll or just go with what I have? Thanks!
Can you use organic lemon juice as oppose to fresh lemons. My husband has a super pubic catheter because of his MS & he catches UTI on a regular basis.
Is this good if type 1 diabetic for kidney protection?
Can I drink this as I have been diagnosed with high creatinin levels. Will it help lower then?
I had my first drink of this today. Now I am EXHAUSTED! I literally feel like I need a nap, and I’ve only been awake a couple of hours. Normal?
Hi Morgan! Did you use unsweetened cranberry juice? If not, the sugar spike could cause you to feel tired if you had it on an empty stomach. Otherwise, this shouldn’t occur so try drinking half the amount next time and see how you do. Having difficulty figuring out where to post this but here we go…. my sister just did your 10 week cleanse some time ago and swears by it. I’m a 33year old man and wondering if it would help my newfound RA diagnosis. Looking for help!
Hi Aaron! Thank you for reaching out to us. Our customer support team will connect with you directly via email and give you some information about our Gut Thrive in 5 program and how it can help.
I’ve been addicted to lemon/lemon juice most of my adult life. I’m 48. Born with one kidney. I think my body has always craved what it needed. I mix the cran juice/water with lemon juice. Just because I like it, I stay pretty healthy and a healthy weight.
Where can you get cranberry juice and chlorophyll ? Dad – 87- needs toxins removed from kidneys
Hi Cheryl! You can find these items at your local health food store. Here’s a link to a brand of chlorophyll we like http://amzn.to/2xjDg3U Hope that helps.
I want to do the 11 week program, but I have a vacation to Vegas for 3 nights in about 8 weeks. Can I still be successful if I have a few days off the cleanse? Is there something we can use to counteract those days?
Hi,I recently seen you on Fox5 news San Diego.I was wondering if you could send me the cleansing recipes.I believe it was 12 or 14days. Thank you,so much.
Hi Yvonne! Christa was recently on FOX5 San Diego discussing Juice Journey; A 7-Day Raw Food and Juice Cleanse. Please click this link for more information. https://thewholejourney.com/?s=juice+journey.
Is this cocktail safe to take if you have chronic kidney disease?
Hi Marissa! Please do not take the kidney cleansing cocktail if you have kidney disease. Dr. Jack Tips can help you with a customized kidney protocol for kidney disease. We have seen his protocols reverse late stage kidney disease. Please contact his office at http://www.wellnesswiz.com/. Good luck to you!
I’m assuming that I should not take this cleanse if I have polycystic kidney disease as well I mean stage 3. Although I do drink cranberry juice and lemon juice I stay away from The Cider but I’ve read the chlorophyll might be a good day for it
Hi,
I am 23 weeks pregnant with twins. I just found out I have a second bladder infection with this pregnancy. Is this cocktail recommended for pregnancy? Or are there any extra guidelines I should follow? I have had one bladder infection with each of my children, ages 3, 2, and 1. However, I am more concerned with this being my second infection in one pregnancy. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Does the recipe have pomegranate seeds in it too?
I am going to give it a try and hope that it will Help.
I would like to try this kidney cleansing cocktail but my friend told me not to take Chlorophyll because it is full of heavy metal. Can you please advise? Thank you very much in advance
Can I drink this while also doing a parasite cleanse? Or would that be too much at one time for my body?
I’ve been doing the raw ginger, raw turmeric, lemon in water every morning but I started getting migraines, shaky and dizzy. It’s better now that I have stopped. Does that combo lower blood sugar or blood pressure.?I’m trying to figure out why I started to feel that way…and it would last a long time.. I was ok doing it in the morning for a long time but those symptoms started a month ago. I didn’t think it was the turmeric/ginger/lemon…., but when I stopped, I felt better.
I can not do raw (or any other form) ginger or turmeric either or I get severe migraine like knife/ice pick pain in my brain, get nauseous etc. (For me it does not usually happen immediately but builds up over a short period of time.) I have methylation mutations as well as some other mutations which are evidently switched on. I can not use lemon without the back of my skull/neck area feeling like it is in a vice being crushed. I have a problem with citric acid. I do know that turmeric though not high in thiols, is really good at raising thiol levels which can effect you if you have sulfur issues. I don’t know if this helps you any.
may I ask what the mutations are? I did the 23andme test, and have a list of the genetic genie results… but I don’t know which genes mutations would be related to the metabolism of ginger or turmeric. thank you 🙂
I am trying to get a handle on all of this gentics & finding that it seems the more I learn the less I know. I believe it is my CBS mutation that is causing my problems with the sulfur/thiol issues.
I also did the 23andme test but ran the raw data through Sterling’s app at MTHFRsupport.com. I found it to be helpful.
A free book on line that I have found to be helpful is Dr. Amy Yasko’s Autism:Pathways to Recovery.
Though it is dealing with autism, I found it to be chock full of information. You can find it here

Just mixed up the “cocktail” It certainly does not look like your photo. I am going to give it a try. I am all for keeping the organs happy and clean. Anything to keep disease at bay. Thank you for your great posts and advise. KEEP THEM COMING
I didn’t like this recipe : that was an ‘expected’ recipe ?? do you know that gray hair has a relation with your kidney health? (I did research on TCM ) So, I’d like to invite you to do some research too (on Trad.Chin.Medicine or Ayurveda). Then, why black sesame seeds are good for reversing gray hair?? ?
One comment suggested boiling frozen cranberries. wouldn’t it destroy the good stuff in it? Is it a good option? Here, over seas, don’t find unsweetened juice…
Thank you so much ! I was just diagnosed with low D and a slight kidney failure… would wheat grass powder + chlorella + spirulina be considered as the chlorophyll requirement?
Perfect timing! I have been passing kidney stones for about a month, went to see a urologist and all he told me was drink more water stop drinking coffee or tea (I don’t drink much) and stop eating green leafy vegetables. I am concerned that any doctor would advocate a decrease in vegetables.
Just decrease raw spinach, beet greens and swiss chard as they are high in oxalates and can contribute to stones when eaten raw. Up your Vitamin D as well Nicole. Glad the timing is good for you!
Hi Nicole,
This is a little late, but I had kidney stones too, and the place I found the most useful information and help was the Trying Low Oxalates yahoo group. They have a really extensive and up to date list of the oxalate content in foods, beverages, and some supplements. They are actively having items tested. The group was started by Susan Costen Owens, a researcher who has been focused on oxalate for about 20 years. A lot of the healthy foods I was eating were very high in oxalates, like kale, spinach, almonds, cashews, pecans, chia seeds, quinoa, brown rice & sesame seed crackers, beans, carrot juice, kiwis, and blackberries.
There are several leafy greens that are a low oxalate, like Tuscan kale (aka Dino or lacinato), arugula, most lettuces, several types of cabbage, etc.
Taking magnesium citrate before meals can help to bind the oxalate in the foods, and keep it from ending up in your kidneys. Vitamin B 6 is helpful as well.
Hope you are stone-free soon!
Ok I have a question. The Lemon water, are we just to have one glass a day or with every glass.
One per day will work!
Be cautious with Stevia, especially if you have previous kidney issues. There is some research showing kidney damage in mice. For myself, the processed stevia powder brought on severe kidney pain after three days of use. The ground stevia plant does not do this to me and so far, I do not notice any ill effects from use of the dark stevia brand used in her video.
Unrefined is always best.
Can I use ground up cranberries/water run through my Vitamix, instead of the cranberry juice? Any idea how much of each to use? The juice upsets my stomach, but not the whole cranberries.
I will def. try this as I had anemia, not sure if I still do…need to redo bloodwork soon to check. Will this also help with IBS?
It’s not targeted for IBS, but many of our digestive blogs help with that like our CCF tea segment.

I thought we were supposed to avoid vinegar??
She allows organic raw apple cider vinegar. All other vinegars are not allowed.
Only avoiding when on the candida cleanse, even ACV. When you’re all thru with the cleanse you can have vinegar
We drink unsweetened cranberry juice, lemon juice and lime juice mixed with water and a little stevia every day — it’s delicious. My husand has a history of kidney stones and is now enduring the 3rd round — it may be because he started using apple cider vinegar in water everyday and it is dislodging some stones — going to try a herbal kidney cleanse next from Jon Barron.
I have PKD and therefore would probably benefit from drinking this cocktail. Where do you buy chlorophyll? I have been living the paleo lifestyle for almost a year now and I have a blog about it called Essentially Paleo Life where I also discuss my use of essential oils and how they have helped me. I use lemon in my water, and lemon and frankincense every day in my first bottle of water. I have been feeling great but I really should get a scan of my kidneys to see if all this has helped. I will also try this cocktail-anything that prevents me from having to go on dialysis like my mom did would be a plus!
Oh man, I don’t know how I’m going to get my hubby to try this. Well he’ll try it, but he won’t finish it.
How much to drink and when if diabetic? I am type 1, but manage blood glucose a lot through diet.
1 per day for 2 weeks should be a good start.
You’re not drinking this to help Diabetes per se, but to alleviate the burden on the kidneys that glucose levels above 85 put on the kidneys
Thanks, that makes more sense to me now. Cheers!
Hi, How often would you recommend this treatment should be repeated? Thanks 🙂
Where do I find UNsweetened cranberry juice? And what about the chlorophyll — does it come in powdered form or do I need to juice something to get it?
Susan,
Buy frozen cranberries and boil them in water until they pop open. Drain the cranberries and throw them away unless you want to make a sauce out of them. Use the liquid to drink and sweeten with stevia.
Ooh, that might even be cheaper than the store. Maybe stock up when there in season.?
I’m on dialysis three times a week for three times a week can I still drink it thank you
Any health food store, Sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, places like that. They come in a jar just like any other juice, but it’s organic and no sugar added. You can do what Karen said, but if you are a person that just doesn’t want to make it yourself then by it in the bottle; usually it’s in a glass bottle.
Vitacost sells the concentrate: 2T mixed in 8oz water
