WHAT WE'RE

Watching…

Wanderlust TV

I had the recent privilege of putting together a food as medicine recipe series for the good folks at Wanderlust who’ve partnered with Siggi’s grass fed yogurt. These 3 recipes are perfect for summer and take less than 5 minutes to make. Watch the short videos below and let us know in the comments if you’re game to try them.

Turmeric Ginger Mango Lassi

There’s a lot to learn from the Okinawans, some of the longest living people in the world. From their turmeric secrets to slashing cellular inflammation came The Whole Journey’s Turmeric Ginger Lemonade. Now with Siggi’s on board, we added mango, yogurt, and cardamom to blend the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with the Japanese secret to longevity. I bet your kids will love this one as well.

Strawberry Vanilla Chia Smoothie

We should always be thinking about consuming enough fiber. Chia seeds feed your good gut bacteria and also help to bind to excess estrogen in the GI tract and pull it out, lowering chances of breast cancer. This smoothie meets all of our 5 requirements of a healthy smoothie: quality protein, fat, fiber, smart carbs, and high vitamin content.

Candida Fighting Pesto

We put a creamy twist on this old Whole Journey favorite pesto. Goodbye excess bad bacteria, viruses, metals, and yeast overgrowth – cleansing pesto to the rescue! Use on already cooked summer meat, fish, veggies, or serve as a dip for chips and veggies or as a salad dressing.

We Love…

Sunscreen!

Protect that beautiful skin with natural sunblock. This is a way many can load up on toxins and poisons, so if you haven't already made the switch – do that pronto. Our team's top picks for natural sunblocks are Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen Coconut Clear Spray, SkinCeuticals Sheer Physical UV Defense for the face, Coola Mineral Suncare Face, Coola Organic Sunscreen Spray, and Badger Sport.

WHAT WE'RE

Listening to…

Wanderlust Speakeasy Podcast

I just got back from Vermont where I gave three lectures and food demos for Wanderlust 2017. They’ve decided to turn their in-person lectures into a podcast!

They call them Speakeasy Talks, which are like their version of spiritual/health & wellness TED talks. Now you can listen to amazing speakers on your walks or on your way to work. Hear my talk on “Heal Your Gut, Heal Your Life” or talks from other speakers like Joe Salatin, Moby, Kate Northrup, Marianne Williamson, and Gabby Bernstein.

WHAT WE'RE

Making…

10-Minute Summer Salads

When the heat cranks up, we naturally crave foods that are lighter, juicier, and raw. That’s why we pretty much only put fruit in our salads in the summer. We’ve got three 10-minute, carefully constructed salads for you today that embrace the season while having an internal cooling effect (eating these is like having built-in AC!). These salads are also built to fill in the antioxidant and trace mineral deficiencies that hot weather can bring.

Healthy Cocktails and Mocktails

Does your cocktail consumption increase during the summer in the spirit of sun-kissed celebration? It feels so good to say cheers to a day well spent being blessed by nature and the season. Balance it out by packing your drinks full of as many antioxidants as possible and keep the sugar OUT.

Let’s make these cocktails and mocktails to celebrate the season! Rocking Cucumber Moscow Mule, Blueberry Basil Mocking Jay, and Strawberry Coconut Electrolyte Margarita.

The Universe Has Your Back: Transform Fear into Faith
by Gabbrielle Bernstein

I've gotten super into Audible lately, and my pup loves it too because his walks are getting longer and longer as a result. :).  The Universe Has Your Back teaches readers how to transform their fear into faith in order to live a divinely guided life. The stories and lessons in the book guide us to release the blocks to what we most long for – happiness, security, and clear direction. Gabby's lessons help us relinquish the need to control so that we can relax into a sense of certainty and freedom. We learn to stop chasing life and truly live. Easy 4 hours to listen to or a quick read – make sure to DO the exercises in the book!

Can you use Triphala while breastfeeding?

Hi K! While Christa would use it herself, there have been no studies to prove it's safety and because it technically is a detox supplement, general advice is to avoid it while pregnant or nursing.

Hi Jessie, Our friends at Paleo Valley have created a top-quality pasture-raised supplement that contains beef heart, liver, kidney, and brains. When we take these organs into our bodies, they strengthen the corresponding organ in us. The brains contain the powerful neurological enhancing nutrients phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. It's also one of the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and is rich in antioxidants which help protect neurological tissue from oxidative stress.

All of this is so awesome! Can't wait to try the gluten free gingerbread. Very interesting that there are now diets for bone broth, curious to read that book. I'm sure I'll need that after the holidays.

While reading about the Betrayal series, it was mentioned that all autoimmune diseases can be reversed. I have had type 1 diabetes for over 25 years and cannot imagine being able to eliminate insulin and survive. I always thought this was an autoimmune problem. Am I wrong? I still need insulin even when I do not eat a carb meal. Also, I went on your gut thrive in five program summer of 2015 (plan p) and it was great for my tummy troubles!! Thanks for helping me learn so much about how our bodies function. Enlighten me on type 1 diabetes and autoimmunity.

Hi Robin! So happy to hear so much good news about your tummy troubles with Gut Thrive. That was a huge leap forward for reversing autoimmunity. I have not privately worked with reversing Type I Diabetes but Dr. Jack Tips has and seems to think it's probable and possible. I believe there is also a talk on Type I in the Betrayal Series that I'm anxious to watch. I wish I could share more information and experience but I think that the doctors on the series and Jack are the ones to actually give you customized protocols and enlightenment. We can learn together. :)~Christa

Hello do you know anything about how to treat Lichen Planus or have you even heard of it.

    • Shelli

Wow! Hi Clarice. This is the second time (in my life) that I have seen anything about Lichen Planus. Just this week is the first time!

I am researching all of the symptoms that have congregated around my journey with Breast Implant Illness, and would love to hear anything about this “new” (to me) anomaly. One of the many, many varied and seemingly unrelated symptoms that I have is what I thought was eczema in my nasal passages. I started having eye eczema about three years ago, and assumed that this is also that.
I have breast “explant” surgery tomorrow morning at 5am. I have been so sick with musculo-skeletal pain, auto-immune symptoms, chronic fatigue and brain fog for years now. I am praying that I will now be able to heal…

Hello there! Although I find your articles informative, as an Ayurvedic Practitioner I had hoped that the tone of the article would be more positive. Using terms such as “betreal by the body” further fuels the sense of disconnection people feel with their bodies through an illness! And according to Ayurveda, it is PRECISELY this sense of disconnection that we identify as the root cause of any disease! The body does not betray! The body speaks and communicates first through hints and whispers, then through imbalances and eventually through full blown disease manifestation. Health is regained only once that true sense of connection and love for every part of ourselves is re established. In gratitude….

Thank you, Tiziana. I appreciate this comment and do agree with it. The body does not betray, it's constantly reorganizing itself to do its best for us so you are correct that the language should reflect that – and our language at TWJ usually does reflect that. Appreciate you taking the time to share this helpful comment.
