FEBRUARY 2017 CURRENT MOOD: SELF LOVE

With Valentine's Day being the month for love, we're focusing on creating more self-love; the most important love from which all other love can stem.

One cannot feed from an empty cup, and if we take the time, energy, and space to truly get to know ourselves and take care of our own needs, we are more complete humans with so much more to give others. So this month, take good care of YOU.

Getting the Love You Want: A Guide for Couples
by Harville Hendrix, Ph.D.

A book for singles and couples to help us understand our subconscious childhood conditioning and wounding so that we can be aware of why we get triggered by our partner (or others if you are not in a relationship). Getting the Love You Want provides a remarkably insightful roadmap to “clean up our side of the fence” so that our love relationships can have the closeness and intimacy we truly desire. We cannot recommend it highly enough and would go so far as to call it life-changing.

You are Stronger Than You Think

Our friend, JJ Virgin, went through the unthinkable. While crossing the street, her oldest son was knocked down by a hit-and-run driver. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and a torn aorta. The doctors told her to let him go because the chances of surviving the necessary surgery were slim, and even if he survived, the brain damage would be too significant. With the infinite power of a mother's love, JJ did not accept this as an answer and chose instead to fight for her son's life, to cultivate the utmost resilience, and to beat impossible odds. This documentary will inspire and remind us all that we, too, can beat impossible odds in our own lives.

Available for viewing starting February 4th.

The Greater Good Podcast: The Power of Self Compassion with Kristin Neff

Are you your own worst critic? It's common to beat ourselves up for faults big and small, but that self-criticism makes us dissatisfied and depressed. What if instead we were kind to ourselves and accepted our faults? Imperfections are part of the shared human experience, and when we realize this, we can feel less isolated and more connected to others and ultimately enjoy deep emotional benefits as a result. Well worth the 25 minutes to listen to this podcast!

Hi Jessie, Our friends at Paleo Valley have created a top-quality pasture-raised supplement that contains beef heart, liver, kidney, and brains. When we take these organs into our bodies, they strengthen the corresponding organ in us. The brains contain the powerful neurological enhancing nutrients phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. It's also one of the richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and is rich in antioxidants which help protect neurological tissue from oxidative stress.

All of this is so awesome! Can't wait to try the gluten free gingerbread. Very interesting that there are now diets for bone broth, curious to read that book. I'm sure I'll need that after the holidays.

While reading about the Betrayal series, it was mentioned that all autoimmune diseases can be reversed. I have had type 1 diabetes for over 25 years and cannot imagine being able to eliminate insulin and survive. I always thought this was an autoimmune problem. Am I wrong? I still need insulin even when I do not eat a carb meal. Also, I went on your gut thrive in five program summer of 2015 (plan p) and it was great for my tummy troubles!! Thanks for helping me learn so much about how our bodies function. Enlighten me on type 1 diabetes and autoimmunity.

Hi Robin! So happy to hear so much good news about your tummy troubles with Gut Thrive. That was a huge leap forward for reversing autoimmunity. I have not privately worked with reversing Type I Diabetes but Dr. Jack Tips has and seems to think it's probable and possible. I believe there is also a talk on Type I in the Betrayal Series that I'm anxious to watch. I wish I could share more information and experience but I think that the doctors on the series and Jack are the ones to actually give you customized protocols and enlightenment. We can learn together. :)~Christa

Hello do you know anything about how to treat Lichen Planus or have you even heard of it.

Wow! Hi Clarice. This is the second time (in my life) that I have seen anything about Lichen Planus. Just this week is the first time!

I am researching all of the symptoms that have congregated around my journey with Breast Implant Illness, and would love to hear anything about this “new” (to me) anomaly. One of the many, many varied and seemingly unrelated symptoms that I have is what I thought was eczema in my nasal passages. I started having eye eczema about three years ago, and assumed that this is also that.
I have breast “explant” surgery tomorrow morning at 5am. I have been so sick with musculo-skeletal pain, auto-immune symptoms, chronic fatigue and brain fog for years now. I am praying that I will now be able to heal…

Hello there! Although I find your articles informative, as an Ayurvedic Practitioner I had hoped that the tone of the article would be more positive. Using terms such as “betreal by the body” further fuels the sense of disconnection people feel with their bodies through an illness! And according to Ayurveda, it is PRECISELY this sense of disconnection that we identify as the root cause of any disease! The body does not betray! The body speaks and communicates first through hints and whispers, then through imbalances and eventually through full blown disease manifestation. Health is regained only once that true sense of connection and love for every part of ourselves is re established. In gratitude….

Thank you, Tiziana. I appreciate this comment and do agree with it. The body does not betray, it's constantly reorganizing itself to do its best for us so you are correct that the language should reflect that – and our language at TWJ usually does reflect that. Appreciate you taking the time to share this helpful comment.
