4) Precursors

Precursors are defined in biochemistry as substances from which another is formed (especially by a metabolic reaction). When speaking about the brain, most precursors are antioxidants, amino acids, and lipid compounds that help support neurotransmitter function, which ultimately regulates our hormones.

GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid) is a key neurotransmitter, which actually blocks some neurotransmission, leading to a less aroused nervous system. This decreases anxiety and increases feelings of calm, for a deeper, better sleep and calmer days.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is another form of the amino acid L-tryptophan, which also makes the neurotransmitter serotonin.
