"Dear Christa,

My son just came out to me that he believes he is gay. He says he doesnt want to feel this way, but he cant help it. Of course as a parent, you are shocked and in complete disbelief. I am the kind of person who wants answers. We are moderately religious and this is very heart breaking to our family. After doing some research, I stumbled across this article about soy and a few others on the bad affects of soy as well. My son was fed soy formula exclusively when he was an infant up until he was one because of digestive problems with milk (recommended by our OLD pediatrician). I noticed strange things about my son when he was a toddler that I reported to our pediatrician at the time, which I knew from talking with other parents were not normal. Lack of erections (almost never), small penis size, etc. Every mother knows, that it is normal for a boy to have this during diaper changes, etc, yet my son almost never did. He also always had the man boobs which he is very self conscious about now.

We now have a second son (2 years old)

"Hi Sam,
I commend you for taking an interest in your health at your age and for wanting to reverse the effects of soy. First off, stopping it completely like you did is great. Secondly, add back the iodine to your system by eating lots of sea vegetables or even supplementing with kelp pills for a few months. 3000mg per day is a catch-all dose to take for 8 weeks. That will rebuild your iodine stores and allow your thyroid to come back to a place of balance. I have not done extensive research on reversing the hormone (estrogen-building) effects of soy. However

Is there a build-up of soy stored in the body? I'm wondering if my lethargy and thyroid problems resulted because I drank soy protein shakes religiously. I'd appreciate knowing if there is any way to detox or reverse the effects of soy?

"Hi Kendra-
All you have to do is stop eating soy in its unfermented form completely, eat a healthy diet and possibly do a cleanse to tune up your system. The body is incredibly resilient. I like the Ejuva Cleanse best for its quality, gentleness and stellar results for full-body detox. Good luck!"

"Hi Kris,
My wife is allergic to soy so we have noticed everything has soy in it, but I had no idea it was this bad. My question is why does the FDA allow this? Is it just about the money as usual? Are they just ignoring the problems associated with it just like Aspartame. Who can you complain to about the FDA? This is insane!

Thanks for the info."

"Hi Phil,
Yes a lot of products have soy in them so I can see where you and your wife might find yourselves frustrated. Ah the FDA...don't get me started. Yes my opinion is that the crop is inexpensive and subsidized, therefore multiple and inordinate uses are found for it where it normally wouldn't belong - same deal with wheat and corn, which is why they are in the top five most common food allergies. Soy is also.
Here is the website to go to in order to voice your opinion to the FDA. http://www.circare.org/info/productcomplaint.htm

It is inspiring to see a consumer taking action! Thank you for your comment!

Best, Christa"

"Dear Crista,

I love your post about soy and its dangers. I hope you keep warning people how toxic soy and soy byproducts are and tell them the truth - the whole truth and nothing but ... you get the picture! Our family gave up soy and soy milk a long time ago and now we are drinking almond and coconut milks, my boys love the great taste.

Stay Healthy!

Brava! Great job!

I fed my son soy formula as a baby, and soy milk until 6 years old. He has made comments like he feels like a girl. I'm worried he is going to be gay because of the soy and what I've been reading about it. is there anyway to reverse the effects if these feelings are caused by the soy?

"Hi Heather,
The effects can be reversed with endocrine testing and balancing. It is likely that his estrogen hormones (3) are out of balance and testosterone is low.

I would recommend a full hormone panel tested via saliva. You can contact us through the web or by phone if you'd like to work with us. Otherwise, ask your GP or a local naturopathic doctor."
